A Little Leader
The breeze was blowing and I could hear a beautiful bird’s song in the distance. It was sunrise, and the rays of sunlight penetrated between the trees. Everything was ready for the mid-year evaluation with our Leaders-in-Training. Brandon reflected joy and motivation in his face after a night of bonfires, s’mores, and delicious Trekkers pizza.
After filling out his evaluation sheet, he was just waiting for the moment. Seconds passed, and Brandon started to read the responses he had written. His leaders listened attentively. I was surprised by his response to a question that said, “What have I learned in the devotionals in camp?” With a little nervousness that could be heard in his voice, he responded, “I have learned to know God better and identify what he wants for my life.”
He then read the next question: “In the future I want to be…” and his response was very inspiring. He paused for a moment and said, “Director of UrbanPromise Honduras.”
“He said it with a smile on his face, and he showed in his eyes a desire to fight for that vision. His peers and leaders applauded with admiration and joy; this makes me smile, knowing that these are the future leaders of Copán Ruinas and Honduras, and I feel so proud of them.
