It doesn't matter if you are a child, a youth or an 81-year-old man, at UPH, you have a place.
Our mission is the youth and children of Copán Ruinas, but this does not prevent us from creating links with other not-so-children who cross our path.
Recently our paths crossed with 81-year-old Don Fidelio. This connection came about through one of our Colombian fellows Laura, who on a previous occasion, was also the leader who introduced us to Genrri.
Laura met Don Fidelio through GAMA—a UPH initiative for training youth in entrepreneurship and leadership through agriculture and animal husbandry—met Don Fidelio.
Now closer to the end of life than to the beginning, he confessed what little hope he had amidst such difficult life circumstances, but with a smile he also recounts how he discovered a life of purpose through UPH. Through the accompaniment received by our leaders like Laura and Ricardo, Don Fidelio now finds himself renewed.
The GAMA initiative alleviated Don Fidelio's economic situation, but mainly this was the space where he found a community of love.
We wish to expand the kingdom of heaven in Copán Ruinas and bring to life the parable from Matthew 20, that no matter who came to our doors, whether they be the first or came last, those with the greatest needs or those with the least, everyone deserves the same generosity and grace that God has given us.
Leaders like Laura and Ricardo inspire us to be attentive to those around us, cultivating community, belonging, and purpose.
If you want to hear his voice, meet his 3 dogs and 17 chickens, we leave you a complete interview of his testimony. We are so blessed to know Don Fidelio, and we hope he has enriched your life today as well.
